Woodchucks Announce Pair of Pitchers

By: Jorden Pagel

(Wausau) – This week the Woodchucks are announcing the addition of a pair of pitchers to their 2012 roster.  Ben Burke of UC-Davis and Jack Fischer of Wake Forest will join the Woodchucks pitching staff this summer after completing their respective college seasons.

Burke, a right-handed junior, is in his first full season at UC-Davis.  He spent his first two years at Santa Ana College, where he was very successful.  He was named the conference pitcher of the year as a sophomore, going 7-5 with a 3.21 ERA.  His freshman year he posted a 6-2 record while pitching over 70 innings.  Comes from a strong baseball family, with two brothers being drafted.

Fischer, also a righty, is a sophomore for the Demon Deacons this season.  So far, he has pitched very well, compiling a 4-4 record with a 3.21 ERA.  Fischer is a two-way player, also seeing time as a position player, which is where he spent most of his freshman season.  He did pitch very well in limited time in 2011 however.  Pitching in six games, he did not allow a run over his first five appearances.  His college success comes on the heels of a great high school career where he hit .355 while also going 11-2 on the mound with a 1.38 ERA.

Make sure to stay tuned to Woodchucks.com, as well as Facebook and Twitter, for player updates, ticket information and much more.  The Woodchucks look forward to seeing you on Opening Night, June 1st, presented by Delta Dental of Wisconsin.
