WAUSAU, WI –
June 7, 2008 - (stats)
Just two games into his Woodchuck career, Troy Frazier
(Kentucky) leads the Woodchucks in nearly ever major offensive
category. A night after driving in four runs in his
Woodchuck (7-2) debut, Frazier went 4 for 5, swatted two home
runs and had four more RBI. Behind the bat of Frazier, the
'Chucks put up eight runs in the first three innings en route to
a two game sweep of the Waterloo Bucks (3-7). With a 9-2 final
tally, the 'Chucks hold onto sole possession of first place in
the NWL South Division.
Chad Moreland (Wayne
State College) got his second start of the season and looked spectacular,
working six innings and allowing only one run on four hits while
striking out eight Bucks and walking just two. With the victory
Moreland improved to 2-0 on the season. Williams Lovera (Sauk
Valley CC), Brad Riddle (Oklahoma City University), and Aaron
Varnum (Embry-Riddle) each pitched an inning of relief to close
out the game.
For the second
consecutive night, the Woodchucks' bats were hot, pounding out
13 hits and scoring nine runs. Eight of the nine 'Chucks in the
starting lineup recorded a hit. Brent Weaver (Oklahoma City
University) went 2 for 4 and had 3 RBI while Kyle Bubak (Salt
Lake CC) was 2 for 4 and scored a pair of runs.
Bucks' starter Jeremy
Hauer (Creighton) last only 1.2 innings and took his first loss
of the season.
The
Wisconsin Woodchucks are a member of the Northwoods League, a
college wood bat summer league featuring players from across the
country. Baseball
America named the Northwoods League as one of the premier summer
