After being rained out on Wednesday night, the Woodchucks (5-2)
and Border Cats (2-6) played two on Thursday. The Borders came
from behind to win game one 6-5, while the 'Chucks took game two
2-1 to earn the split.
In the first game, the
'Chucks fought back from a 3-0 early deficit to take a 5-4 lead
on Jeff Cowan's (High Point) two RBI single in the top of the
sixth. Starter Zak Moore, however, would give up the tying run
in the bottom half of the seventh as the game headed to extra
innings. After stranding a runner at third base in the top of
the eighth, Connor Lind knocked in the game winning run on a
single to center field in the home half of the eighth inning.
Bobby Pritchett
(Central Arkansas) picked up the loss in relief. His record on
the season is now 1-1.
The 'Chucks sent
right-hander Kyle Gumieny (Lamar CC) to the hill in the nightcap
and he was outstanding, pitching a complete game and improving
his record to 2-0. Gumieny allowed only one run while Pritchett
provided all the offense for the 'Chucks with a towering two-run
homer to left field in the top of the second inning
With the split, the
Woodchucks are currently in second place in the Northwoods
League South Division, just a half game back of Madison.
The
Wisconsin Woodchucks are a member of the Northwoods League, a
college wood bat summer league featuring players from across the
country. Baseball
America named the Northwoods League as one of the premier summer
