WAUSAU, WI – June 2nd,
2008 - (stats)
Apparently the visiting La
Crosse Loggers (3-2) were not aware that Monday was Woody the
Woodchuck's birthday. The Loggers pounded out 14 hits in a 8-2
victory over the 'Chucks (3-1).
Loggers starter
Wade Kapteyn (1-1) went six innings allowing only one run on one
hit to earn his first victory of the season. Corey Vaughn (San
Diego State) led the way offensively going 4 for 5, while Derek
Melton (Evansville) added three singles and two RBI.
In his first start of
the season, Eric Dayton (Marian University) threw 3.1 innings
and picked up the loss. The 'Chucks were held to only three hits
on the evening with Zak Moore (Creighton) going 1 for 3 with a
run scored. Williams Lovera (Sauk Valley Community College)
pitched 5.2 solid innings in relief, striking out six while
allowing only one earned run.
The
Wisconsin Woodchucks are a member of the Northwoods League, a
college wood bat summer league featuring players from across the
country. Baseball
America named the Northwoods League as one of the premier summer
collegiate baseball leagues in the country.
