WAUSAU, WI – June 17,
2008 - (stats)
The Woodchucks (15-2) officially extended their winning streak
to 10 games Monday night with a convincing 6-0 win over the
Green Bay Bullfrogs (7-11). Officially, the suspended game
against the Eau Claire Express is not included in the current
streak.
Kyle Mertins (Santa
Ana) looked stellar in his second start of the season. Mertins
worked 7.0 strong innings, allowing only four hits and no runs
while striking out six and walking one. The victory improved
Mertins record to 1-0 on the season.
Jeff Cowan (High Point)
was the only 'Chuck without a hit, but Cowan extended his
on-base streak to 17 games with a first inning walk. Brent
Weaver (Oklahoma City) continued his hot hitting going 2 for 5
with a pair of doubles, an RBI, and a run scored. Kyle Bubak
(Salt Lake CC) added two more hits and scored a couple of runs,
while Geoff Klein (Santa Clara) also socked two hits in just his
second game as a Woodchuck.
Picking up the loss was
Green Bay starter Tim Jolly, dropping his record to 2-2.
The Woodchucks return
to Athletic Park Tuesday for a three game home stand. First
pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. with gates opening at 5:35 p.m.
as the 'Chucks take on the Rochester Honkers. It is Wausau Youth
Baseball and Softball night at Athletic Park!
The
Wisconsin Woodchucks are a member of the Northwoods League, a
college wood bat summer league featuring players from across the
country. Baseball America named the Northwoods League as
one of the premier summer collegiate baseball leagues in the
country.
