WAUSAU, WI – June 17,
2008 - (stats) It had to
end sometime and the Rochester Honkers (11-6) were just the team
to do it. The Honkers snap the Woodchucks (15-3) ten game
winning streak and spoil a bid to set a new franchise record
with a 6-2 victory Tuesday night at Athletic Park. The
Woodchucks struggled offensively and despite being walked 11
times by Honkers pitchers, they could muster only three hits,
stranding 13 runners. Chris Wade (Kentucky), Jonathan Kaskow
(Stanford), and Chris Slater (Baylor) had hit apiece, while Jeff
Cowan (High Point) managed to reach base safely late in the
game. Cowan extends his streak to 18 games reaching base safely.
Starter Zak Moore
(Creighton) worked five innings allowing four runs on four hits
while striking out two. Moore was saddled with the loss,
dropping his record to 1-1. Rob Currie (Tusculum) pitched four
innings of solid relief allowing only one earned run while
striking out five and walking none.
The Honkers' Zach
Robertson picked up the win and boosted his record to 3-1.
Robertson allowed only one hit and one run while walking six and
striking out nine.
The Woodchucks look to
avenge tonight's loss as they wrap up the two game series
against Rochester tomorrow night at Athletic Park. The first 500
fans through the gate will receive a "Live United"
t-shirt. Gates open at 5:35 p.m. with first pitch scheduled for
6:35 p.m.
