WAUSAU, WI –
June 14, 2008 - (stats)
It was a bit close for comfort, but the Woodchucks (13-2 earned
their ninth straight victory by edging the Waterloo Bucks (3-9)
5-4 Saturday Night at Athletic Park. Originally scheduled to be
played in Waterloo, heavy flooding forced the game to be moved
to Wausau. So for the first time ever, the 'Chucks were the
visiting team in Athletic Park
Robert Young
(Dartmouth) picked up the win in his first star of the season.
Young worked five strong innings allowing only tow runs on four
hits while striking out seven Bucks. Aaron Varnum (Embry-Riddle)
came on in the bottom of the ninth and allowed the first two
batters to score to bring the game within one run. Varnum,
though, retired the next three batters to pick up his
league-leading sixth save.
Jeff Cowan (High Point)
continued to hit well, going 3 for 4 on the evening with one RBI
and a run scored. Incredibly, Cowan ha reached base safely every
game so far this season. Chris Wade (Kentucky) and Bobby
Pritchett (Central Arkansas) each added a hit and a run scored
to help the 'Chucks to their 13th victory of the season.
Waterloo starter Jeremy
Hauer (Creighton) was hurt by two Bucks errors and picked up the
loss. Spencer Wiggins (George Mason) went 1 for 5 with two runs
scored.
