WAUSAU,
WI – June 12, 2008 – (stats)
The
offense continued to surge for the Woodchucks (12-2) as they
swept the two game series against the Green Bay Bullfrogs (5-9)
with a 11-7 win at Athletic Park Thursday Night. The victory
marks the eighth straight for the 'Chucks dating back to June
5th.
Kyle
Gumieny (Lamar CC) got the start and threw five innings allowing
three runs and picking up the victory. The win improves
Gumieny's record to a perfect 3-0 on the season. Brad Riddle
(Oklahoma City University) earned a five out save, his first of
the season.
The
'Chucks continued to be hot at the plate, pounding out 16 hits
to plate 11 runs. They scored runs in six of the eight innings
they batted and outscored the Bullfrogs 21-8 in the two game
set. Chris Wade (Kentucky) led the way offensively, going 4 for
5 with two RBI and a run scored. Troy Frazier (Kentucky) hit his
third homer of the season while Jeremy Barnes (Notre Dame)
launched his first Frazier finished 3 for 5 with two RBI
and two runs scored and Jeff Cowan (High Point) went 2 for 4
with two RBI and two runs.
Picking
up his second loss of the season was Bullfrogs starter Jon
Gulbransen (Valparaiso). Nick O'Shea (Minnesota) hit a pair of
solo home runs for Green Bay.
The
Woodchucks have an off day Friday June 15th, but return to
Athletic Park on Saturday to play the Waterloo Bucks. The game
has been moved to Wausau due to flooding. It is 2-for-1 night at
Athletic Park, with first pitched scheduled for 6:35 PM.
The
Wisconsin Woodchucks are a member of the Northwoods League, a
college wood bat summer league featuring players from across the
country. Baseball
America
named the Northwoods League as one of the premier summer
