WAUSAU, WI –
June 1, 2008 - After a
couple of nights of small-ball, the Woodchucks (3-0) brought
their lumber to Athletic Park Sunday night, sweeping a two game
with the Battle Creek Bombers (1-3).
Down 2-0 heading into
the sixth, the Woodchucks scored three runs to take the lead.
Following a leadoff double by Kyle Wilson (Hill CC), a three
base error by the catcher allowed Carson Vitale (McClenann CC)
to plate Wilson and reach third. Back to back doubles by Bobby
Pritchett (Central Arkansas) and Regulo Moy (Sauk Valley
Community College) brought home two more runs and saw the sixth
inning end with a 3-2 Woodchucks lead.
The 'Chucks would add
some extra insurance in the home half of the eighth, behind a
bases clearing double by Vitale. Two more runs in the inning led
to the final score of 8-2. Right-hander Chad Moreland (Wayne
State College) went seven strong innings in the start and picked
up the victory to improve to 1-0. Wilson led the way offensively
with a 3 for 3 night and reached base five times.
Bombers starter Kurt
Wunderlich picked up the loss, his first of the season.
The
Wisconsin Woodchucks are a member of the Northwoods League, a
college wood bat summer league featuring players from across the
country. Baseball
America named the Northwoods League as one of the premier summer
collegiate baseball leagues in the country.
