WAUSAU, WI – May 30, 2008 – (stats)
Kyle Gumieny (Lamar C.C.) allowed one run on three hits and
struck out three in seven innings to open his Woodchuck career.
Gumieny worked extremely efficient early on, logging a
four-pitch inning in the third and retiring nine of the first 10
batters he faced.
Woody Woodchucks bobblehead night,
presented by the Wisconsin Pizza Factory, will be issued to the
first 500 fans.
The Woodchucks move to 1-0 and the Express
drop to 0-1 in league play.
The 'Chucks plated a pair of runs in the
third, as Jeff Cowan (High Point) started a two-out, bases empty
rally with a walk. Express starter Chris Odegaard (Mankato
State) struggled with his control after the walk to Cowan and
loaded the bases with two more free passes. An error plated the
first Woodchuck run and Bobby Prichett (University of Central
Arkansas) drove in a run on hard liner to left.
A wild pitch plated another run for the
'Chucks in the fifth.
The only run allowed was a Kole Calhoun (Yavapai)
home run to right in the sixth.
Prichett finished with a pair of singles,
the only hitter in the ballgame with a multi-hit game. Regulo
Moy (Sauk Vallye C.C.) and Kyle Bubak (Salt Lake C.C.) each
swiped a base. Williams Lovera (Sauk Valley C.C.) picked up the
save.
The Wisconsin
Woodchucks are a member of the Northwoods League, a college wood
