A night after being tagged for eight runs by the visiting La
Crosse Loggers (3-3), the Woodchucks (4-1) pitching staff had a
bit of a chip on their shoulder Tuesday night at Athletic Park.
Bobby Pritchett (University of Central Arknsas), Brad Riddle
(Oklahoma City University), and Aaron Varnum (Embry-Riddle)
combined to through a three hit shutout en route to a 1-0
Woodchucks' victory.
Pritchett got the start
and was spectacular through seven innings of work, retiring the
last 13 Logger batters he faced. Earning his first win of the
season, Pritchett struck out eight and walked only one. Varnum
earned his second save of the season by striking out Loggers DH
Tommy Peale (Lewis & Clark) with runners on first and second
to end the game.
Providing the big hit
for the Woodchucks was Carson Vitale (McClennan CC). Vitale's
double in the bottom of the second brought home Jeremy Barnes
(Notre Dame) for the lone run of the game. Vitale would finish
the game 2 for 2.
La Crosse Starter Chris
Sale (Florida Gulf Coast)
worked six innings and struck out ten, but was saddled with his
first loss of the season.
The
Wisconsin Woodchucks are a member of the Northwoods League, a
college wood bat summer league featuring players from across the
