WAUSAU, WI – AUGUST 8, 2007 – (stats)
Brent Weaver's (Rose State College) grand slam in the third and
Willy Kesler's (Lamar C.C.) 10 strikeouts lifted the Chucks a
6-1 win. Kesler struck out the side in both the second and third
innings, while allowing just one run on four hits.
Chucks move to 18-11 in the second half
(33-29 overall). The Woodchucks playoff hopes depend if Madison
and Eau Claire win. If either win a game before they meet for
the final two games of the season, the Woodchucks would be
mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.
The third started with a free pass by Sam
Freeman (Marshall) and a single by Brandon Frazier
(Texas-Wesleyan). With first base open after a groundout,
Brainerd pitched around Darin Ruf (Creighton) to face Brent
Weaver who made them pay with a bomb to left center field. The
Chucks would add two more in the sixth on a pass ball and an
RBI-infield single by Nick Nordgren (Indian Hills C.C.).
Adam Morrison (Garden City C.C.) and Pat
Venditte each logged an inning to finish the Woodchucks
win.
Speedy Nick Nordgren swiped three bases
making him a perfect 12-for-12 on the base paths this
season.
