Round-trippers Give Chucks 9-6 Win

WAUSAU, WI – AUGUST 6, 2007 – (stats) In front of 2,271 fans, the Chucks smacked three long balls in a 9-6 win over the Waterloo Bucks. Jake Pole (Augustana) clobbered a two-run home run in the seventh to give the Chucks a 7-6 lead. Two more runs would extend the lead to 9-6 after seven complete and Colin Auten (Texas Tech) would finish the game recording his third save.

Both teams dented the scoreboard early as the Bucks plated two in the top half and the Chucks countered with three in the bottom half. Darin Ruf (Creighton) smacked a two-run bomb and Brent Weaver (Rose State College) followed with a solo shot. It was the first time the Chucks hit back-to-back home runs this season. 

If both Eau Claire and Madison lose, the Chucks would pick up a game be 1.5 off the South Division lead. The win moves the Chucks to 17-10 (overall 32-28) in the second half. 

Starter Justin Fitzgerald (UC-Davis) logged seven innings and struck out seven, while picking up his fourth win of the season. The six earned runs is the most Fitzgerald has allowed all season.

Every Woodchuck contributed as all batters either collected a hit or scored a run. Greg Harder (UW-Whitewater) and Brandon Frazier (Texas-Wesleyan) each collected a couple hits and drove in a run.

Woodchucks will start a two-game set with the Brainerd Blue Thunder Tuesday, August 7 at 6:35 p.m. Its FAN APPRECIATION NIGHT with 75 cent hot dogs and free prizes all night long. 

NOTES: Matt Gantner's (High Point) season has ended with a broken bone in his hand ... Tyrell Cummings (Seminole J.C.) and Jordan Stine (UW-Whitewater) are still sidelined with an injury ...  Darin Ruf's home run was his eighth and Brent Weaver's was number four on the season ... Its the fifth time this season the Chucks have had at least two home runs in one game ... Brandon Frazier's triple is his fourth, within one of tying the Chucks single season record of five ... It was Auten's first save since June 8 versus Eau Claire ... Woodchucks are now 6-2 this season and 61-63 all-time versus the Bucks  ... Chucks are 18-11 at home this season ...
