WAUSAU, WI – AUGUST 5, 2007 – (stats)
Two runs in the 16th inning gave the Woodchucks a big win 6-5
over the Waterloo Bucks. The Chucks trailed 5-4 heading into the
bottom half, but Brandon Frazier (Texas-Wesleyan) started a
rally with a single. Brent Weaver (Rose State College) tied the
game with an infield single and Nick Nordgren (Indian Hills
C.C.) drove in the winning run with a sacrifice fly to deep
center.
A couple walks and one error gave the Bucks
four runs on just two hits in the third. A two-out, base
clearing double followed by an RBI-single gave Waterloo a 4-0
lead.
The Woodchucks countered in the fifth with
a couple runs as Nick Nordgren (Indian Hills C.C.) scored on a
throwing error and Jeremy Barnes (Notre Dame) drove in Sam
Freeman (Marshall) to cut the deficit to two, 4-2.
A two-out, two-RBI double down the right
field line by Brent Weaver, who finished 4-for-6, tied the game
at four in the ninth. With two-outs and Darin Ruf (Creighton) at
first, Vicente Cafaro (Iowa Western C.C.) pinch hit and slapped
a single down the left field line before Weaver's big hit.
Goose eggs would cover the scoreboard for
the next seven innings, before the Bucks scored a run in the
16th to take a 5-4 lead.
The Woodchucks left the bases loaded twice
leaving 16 runners on base. Chucks out hit the Bucks 16-10, but
committed four errors defensively.
Matt Trausch (Oakland) tossed the first
seven innings allowing four runs on five hits, while striking
out four Bucks. Zak Moore (Creighton) pitched the next five
innings without allowing a hit. Rex Ingham (Garden City C.C.)
and Pat Venditte (Creighton), who picked up the win, pitched the
final four innings of the marathon.
The four-game home stand will continue
Monday, August 6 at 6:35 as the first 500 fans will receive a
free Wisconsin Badgers hat, presented by Integrity First Bank.
Bucky Badger will be in attendance to battle Woody for best
Mascot.
