WAUSAU, WI – AUGUST 10, 2007 – (stats)
Matt Trausch (Oakland) tossed seven scoreless innings allowing
five hits and striking out two, while not walking a batter in a
5-0 win. The Chucks defense aided Trausch as Ben Long (MATC)
tossed out two runners at second attempting to steal and two
Bullfrogs were cut down at home.
In the second, Darin Ruf (Creighton) fired
home to cut down the first Bullfrog runner and Jeremy Barnes
made a strike throw home on a double steal attempt by Green Bay
in the third. Trausch also picked off a batter in the Bullfrogs
Little League base running.
The Chucks started scoring early with a run
in the first and a Jeremy Barnes (Notre Dame) solo bomb to left
field in the third to lead 2-0. Another run in the seventh on a
sacrifice fly from Sam Freeman (Marshall) scoring Elliott
Arrington (UNC-Asheville), who led off the inning with a double.
Chucks added some insurance in the eighth
with a couple base-loaded singles by Ben Long and Sam Freeman.
College teammates Zak Moore (Creighton) and Pat Venditte
(Creighton) finished the last couple innings.
The win improves the Chucks to 20-11 in the
second half (36-29 overall).
Four Woodchucks finished with multi-hit
games as Barnes, Frazier, Long and Arrington all smacked a
couple hits. Sam Freeman drove in two RBI's tripling his season
total.
