WATERLOO, IOWA – JULY 31, 2007 –
Matt Trausch (Oakland) pitched eight scoreless innings allowing
just three hits and striking out a season-high five batters in a
1-0 win over the Waterloo Bucks. The win moves the Chucks within
a half game of the South Division leaders Eau Claire and Green
Bay with a 15-6 (31-24 overall) second half record.
The only run came in the fourth when Brent
Weaver (Rose State College) drove in Jeremy Barnes (Notre Dame)
on an RBI-single. Elliott Arrington (UNC-Asheville) was the only
Woodchucks with a multi-hit game finishing 2-for-4 with a couple
singles.
Trausch allowed just four base runners in
eight innings and retired eight straight from the fifth to the
seventh. Pat Venditte (Creighton) picked up his ninth save
logging the last inning. Weaver had eight assists at third,
recording the third out in the ninth. The Chucks
continue its six game-road trip in Alexandria Wednesday, August
1 at 7:05 p.m. NOTES: Sam Freeman is the probable
starter for Wednesday, August 1 versus Alexandria ... The Chucks are now
4-2 this
season and 59-63 all-time versus Bucks ... Trausch has two
complete games and pitched eight innings in three other starts
... Trausch recorded 12 groundball outs compared to just three
fly ball outs ... Its the first game since July 9th that the
Woodchucks did not have an extra base hit as all seven hits were
singles ... Its the 25th one run game the Chucks have played in,
a league-high, standing 12-13 in that situation ... Woodchucks
finish July 18-8, the second most wins in the league.
