WAUSAU, WI – JULY 28, 2007 – (stats)
The Chucks could not figure out right hander Eryk McConnell
(North Carolina State) in a 6-1 loss. The Woodchucks were struck
out 10 times by McConnell as Brandon Frazier (Texas-Wesleyan)
was the only one that could figure out the Mallards starter.
Frazier finished 3-for-4 with a solo home run down the right
field line in the eighth. The loss drops the Chucks to 13-6
(29-24 overall). The Mallards struck
the scoreboard right away with a couple runs on just one base
hit in the first inning. A sacrifice fly and RBI-single
increased the Chucks deficit to four as they trailed 4-0 after
the fifth. Both in the first and the
fifth the Chucks had runners on first and second with nobody
out, but failed to get key hits with runners in scoring
position. Southpaw, starter Adam
Morrison (Garden City C.C.) , "Mighty Mouse", went the
first six innings giving up four runs on six hits. Reliever
Colin Auten (Texas Tech) logged the last three innings giving up
the final two runs for the Mallards in the ninth.
The Chucks have the day off Sunday, July
29, but will begin a six day road trip Monday, July in Waterloo,
Iowa. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. from Riverfront
Stadium. NOTES: Willie Kempf is the probable
starter for Monday, July 30 ... Darin Ruf's 12 game hitting
streak and 10 game his on-base streak was snapped going for
0-for-4 ... Chucks
are now 6-2 this season versus Madison and 37-35 all-time ...
Matt Gantner (High Point) left the game in fourth after
colliding with center fielder Brandon Frazier on a fly ball
... Brent Weaver (Rose State College) robbed a Mallard of
a bunt single by making a bare-handed field and throw in the
fifth ... Ruf made a diving stop in the ninth ...
Frazier's home run was his second of the season ... Its the
first time since June 26 and June 28 that the Chucks have lost
back-to-back ballgames.
