WAUSAU, WI – JULY 23, 2007 – (stats)
With two-outs and nobody on in the ninth the Chucks kept their
hopes alive with back-to-back walks. An error by the Huskies
third baseman allowed Darin Ruf (Creighton) to score all the way
from second to win the ballgame 3-2.
The Huskies took the lead early with a run
in the second and third innings. A wild pitch and solo bomb is
the only way the Huskies plated runs collecting just six hits
off the Chucks pitching staff.
Blake Martin (LSU) got out of bases loaded
two-out jam in sixth that ignited the Chucks first baseman Darin
Ruf to take the first pitch over the left field wall in the
bottom half. An RBI-double by Matt Gantner (High Point) scored
Elliott Arrington (UNC-Asheville) who reached on a single.
Brandon Frazier (Texas-Wesleyan) was the
only Chuck with a multi-hit game going 2-for-3. Pat Venditte
(Creighton) picked up his third victory of the season as starter
Willie Kempf logged five innings, but issued six free passes, in
his seventh start.
The first of two Chamber Night's will start
Tuesday, July 24 at 6:35 p.m. as the Chucks finish its two game
set against the Huskies.
NOTES: Matt Trausch is the probable starter
for Tuesday, July 24 … Darin Ruf extended his hitting streak
