The Long Ball Hurts Chucks

July 22, 2007

WATERLOO, IOWA – JULY 22, 2007 – (stats) Three solo home runs by Waterloo Bucks, including back-to-back bombs, handed the Chucks a 6-2 loss at Riverfront Stadium. The Woodchucks collected just seven hits and had two runners cut down at home moving them to 11-3 (27-21 overall) in the second half.

The Bucks took the lead early with a solo shot in the first inning and added another run in the third. The Chucks cut the lead in half when Vicente Cafaro (Iowa Western C.C.) scored on a double play in the fourth. The Bucks added two in the fifth and seventh to extend its slim one run margin.

The Chucks started a rally in the eighth when pinch hitter Matt Gantner (High Point) blooped a single to left. A double by Cafaro and an RBI-single by Darin Ruf, who finished 2-for-3, kept the rally going before a double play ended the Chucks hopes.

Southpaw Adam Morrison (Garden City C.C.) logged six innings and took the loss moving him to 4-3, while college teammate Rex Ingham (Garden City C.C.) and Pat Venditte (Creighton) cleaned up the last two innings.
