Chucks Blow Two Run Margin and Lose 5-4 in Extras

July 18, 2007

WAUSAU, WI  - JULY 18, 2007 - (stats) 'Chucks led 4-2 heading into the ninth, but the Bombers did not give up scoring the tying run on the a wild pitch. The 'Chucks were an out away from a victory with just one runner on first. Back-to-back singles, a hit-by-pitch and a wild pitch, all with two-outs, gave the Bombers hope in extras. An unearned Bomber run in the eleventh proved to be the difference.

The difficult loss drops the 'Chucks to 8-2 (24-20 overall) and improves the Bombers to 3-7 (18-26 overall).

The 'Chucks started the scoring when Jordan Stine (UW-Whitewater) was hit-by-a-pitch, Jeremy Barnes (Notre Dame) hit an RBI-double and Darin Ruf (Creighton) smacked a two-run home run to take an early 3-0 lead. The Bombers countered back with a couple runs in the fifth, before the 'Chucks added a run in the bottom half with a Jeremy Barnes solo-shot.

Hurler Justin Fitzgerald (UC-Davis) seven inning performance was spoiled as he struck out five and walked just one batter. Pat Venditte (Creighton) blew his first save of the season, but Rex Ingham was handed the loss giving up the eleventh inning run.

Both Tyrell Cummings (Seminole J.C.) and Barnes finished with two hits and the 'Chucks smacked just six as a team. Ruf had 18 putouts at first base.

Tomorrow, July 19, the 'Chucks will take on the Loggers at 6:35 p.m. as 'Dukes of Hazzard' star Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane (James Best) and see the General Lee, presented by Yach's Body & Custom.
