July 17, 2007

STEVENS POINT, WI – JULY 17, 2007 – (stats) In the third annual game at Bukolt Park, Stevens Point residents saw fireworks during and after the ballgame, as the Woodchucks racked up 19 runs on 18 hits. Both runs and hits were season highs as Jeremy Barnes (Notre Dame) hit three, three-run home runs in consecutive innings ending 4-for-6 with nine RBI’s and four runs scored.

The blowout win improves the 'Chucks to 8-1 (24-19 overall) and drops the Bombers to 2-7 (17-16 overall).

Adam Morrison (Garden City C.C.), “Mighty Mouse”, picked up the win and moved to 4-2 as he struck eight Bombers. Blake Martin (LSU) and Colin Auten (Texas Tech) combined to clean up the last three innings.

All but one starter collected at least one hit as both Tyrell Cummings (Seminole State C.C.) and Matt Ganter (High Point) were perfect at the plate with 4-for-4 and 3-for-3 night. Gantner, Matt Willard (Arkansas) and Jordan Stine (UW-Whitewater) all drove in a pair as the 'Chucks had six extra base hits.

The 'Chucks led just 5-2 heading into the sixth inning, but scored 14 runs in their final three innings.

The 'Chucks were perfect defensively as Brent Weaver (Rose State College) made a diving stop on a ground ball in the fifth and Jeremy Barnes climbed the ladder in the seventh making a leaping catch. A full extension catch by Bombers center fielder Nick Jowers (Maryland) robbed Elliot Arrington (UNC-Asheville) of extra bases in the third.
