MADISON, WI – JULY 14, 2007 – (stats)
The ‘Chucks defeated the Mallards 8-7 for their sixth straight
win to begin the second half. Vicente Cafaro (Iowa Western C.C.)
mashed the Mallards with a 4-for-5, four RBI performance driving
in the first run of the slugfest.
The sixth straight win moves the ‘Chucks
to 6-0 (22-18 Overall) and drops the Mallards to 1-5 (Overall
17-22).
Wisconsin plated two runs in the first and
second, three in the fifth and one in the sixth. Brent Weaver
(Rose State College) smacked a three run home run over left
center in the fifth and Cafaro's RBI-single in the sixth proved
to be the game-winner. Twice the Woodchucks lead by four runs,
(4-0 & 7-3), but the Mallards pulled within a run plated
three in the second and three in the fifth.
In the ninth, the Mallards would not go
away without a fight. With two outs, Daniel Webb (Illinois)
singled up the middle to cut the 'Chucks lead to just one run.
Pat Venditte (Creighton) finally got the last out and picked up
his seventh save of the season. Five pitchers from each roster
toed the rubber as Blake Martin (LSU) grabbed the win and Trevor
Feeney (Northern Illinois) was handed the loss. 'Chucks reliever
Rex Ingham (Garden City C.C.) lasted the longest on the mound
pitching 3.2 innings, allowing just one hit.
The ‘Chucks will continue its four-game
road-trip Sunday, July 15, in La Crosse when they take on the Loggers
at 5:05 p.m.

Newcomer Sam Freeman saw his first action in the game driving in
a run with a sac fly in the first ... Pat Venditte now has 12 appearances

return from a family reunion.
