WAUSAU,
WI – May 5, 2008 – The Wisconsin Woodchucks have announced the re-signing of
outfielder Tyrell Cummings. Cummings played for the ‘Chucks during the 2007
summer and is currently playing at Southeast Missouri State University. The
‘Chucks also announced the recent signings of Rob Currie (Tusculum College) and
Robert Young (Dartmouth College).
Cummings, a 6’0” junior outfielder for the Redhawks, is hitting .337 and has
started in all 39 games this spring. He is the team leader in runs (43), hits
(58), doubles (14), home runs (10), and runs batted in (48). In only 10 games
for the ‘Chucks last summer, Cummings hit .359 with five runs scored and two
doubles.
Currie
is a 6’6” right-handed pitcher for Tusculum College in Greeneville, Tennessee.
He carries a 2.44 earned run average in 16 appearances this spring. The junior
has started seven games and has a record of 4-4 for the 40-13 Pioneers.
Tusculum is ranked 17th in the nation in NCAA Division II.
Young is
a 6’2”, 240-lb. sophomore left-handed pitcher for Dartmouth College, a member of
the Ivy League. He has pitched 54.1 innings in nine starts this spring. The
Cleburne, Texas native is 4-2 with a 4.97 ERA. His strikeout to walk ratio is
an impressive 38 to 8. The Dartmouth Big Green will play in the Ivy League
Championship series against Columbia on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The Wisconsin Woodchucks are a member of the Northwoods League, a college wood
bat summer league featuring players from across the country. Baseball America
named the Northwoods League as one of the premier summer collegiate baseball
leagues in the country. The Woodchucks 2008 home opener is set for Friday, May
