WAUSAU,
WI – May 12, 2008 – Catchers Geoff Klein and Carson Vitale will be working
behind the plate this summer for the Wisconsin Woodchucks. Klein is a sophomore
at Santa Clara University while Vitale is a sophomore at McLennan Community
College. The ‘Chucks open up the 2008 season in Eau Claire on May 29th.
Klein is
a 6’4”, 185 pound catcher / infielder from Huntington Beach, California. He has
started in 44 games this spring and is hitting .314 for the 32-18 Broncos.
Klein has 12 doubles, three home runs, and 31 runs batted in. The Broncos are
in third place in the West Coast Conference, behind nationally ranked San Diego
(#8) and Pepperdine (#14). As a high school senior in 2006, Klein was the
Goldenwest League’s Most Valuable Player and was named to the All-California
Interscholastic Federation First Team.
Vitale
is hitting .317 for the McLennan Community College Highlanders. A native of
British Columbia, Canada, Vitale has displayed his gap-hitting power this spring
as he leads the team in doubles with 20. At 6’2”, 225 pounds he was a two-time
Top Catcher at the Canadian High School Nationals.
The Wisconsin Woodchucks are a member of the Northwoods League, a college wood
bat summer league featuring players from across the country. Baseball America
named the Northwoods League as one of the premier summer collegiate baseball
leagues in the country. The Woodchucks 2008 home opener is set for Friday, May
