WAUSAU,
WI – April 4, 2008 – The Wisconsin Woodchucks have announced infielder Brent
Weaver will return to the team for the 2008 season. Weaver is currently at
Oklahoma City University and one of the hottest hitters in the Sooner Athletic
Conference.
Weaver,
a 6’1”, 205 pound junior, is ranked second in the SAC in home runs (15), fourth
in runs batted in (59), and fourth in batting average (.450). He is the
conference leader in total bases with an astounding 130. The OCU Stars are in
second place in conference play with a 15-2 record (35-4 overall).
Weaver
played for the Woodchucks during the 2007 summer. After joining the team midway
through the season, the third baseman quickly became one of the ‘Chucks top
sluggers. He finished third on the team with six home runs and tied for fourth
with 20 RBI in only 32 games played. His slugging percentage of .445 was good
for third best among ‘Chucks hitters.
As a
high school senior Weaver was an Oklahoman All-State and coaches
All-State selection at Midwest City. The Milwaukee Brewers drafted him in the
38th round of the 2003 Major League Baseball draft.
The Wisconsin Woodchucks are a member of the Northwoods League, a college wood
bat summer league featuring players from across the country. Baseball America
named the Northwoods League as one of the premier summer collegiate baseball
leagues in the country. The Woodchucks 2008 home opener is set for Friday, May
