WAUSAU,
WI – March 24, 2008 – The Wisconsin Woodchucks have added three University of
Kentucky Wildcats to its roster for the 2008 summer. Chris Wade, Clint Tilford,
and Kevin Thulin will be heading north to Wausau to play for field manager Jim
Gantner.
Wade, a
redshirt freshman shortstop, has started every game for the undefeated Wildcats
(18-0) this spring. He is hitting a stellar .338 and leads the team in doubles
with 10. His 6’0”, 160-lb. stature has also produced three homeruns and 28 runs
batted in. The UK Athletics website called Wade a “slick-fielding shortstop”
and he “came to UK as one of the more accomplished high school players in the
state of Kentucky.”
Tilford,
a sophomore pitcher, has a 1.50 ERA in four appearances this spring. He has
struck out ten and walked three hitters in six innings pitched. The 6’2” righty
was a Louisville Slugger All-American coming out of Heath High School in West
Paducah, Kentucky.
Thulin,
a 6’3”, 235-lb. junior outfielder, played at Seminole State College before
joining the Wildcats this school year. He is considered the “best raw power
hitter on the club” according to the UK Athletics website. Thulin was an
All-State selection in Oklahoma during his high school baseball career.
The Wisconsin Woodchucks are a member of the Northwoods League, a college wood
bat summer league featuring players from across the country. Baseball America
named the Northwoods League as one of the premier summer collegiate baseball
leagues in the country. The Woodchucks 2008 home opener is set for Friday, May
