March 24, 2008

WAUSAU, WI – March 24, 2008 – The Wisconsin Woodchucks have added three University of Kentucky Wildcats to its roster for the 2008 summer.  Chris Wade, Clint Tilford, and Kevin Thulin will be heading north to Wausau to play for field manager Jim Gantner.

Wade, a redshirt freshman shortstop, has started every game for the undefeated Wildcats (18-0) this spring.  He is hitting a stellar .338 and leads the team in doubles with 10.  His 6’0”, 160-lb. stature has also produced three homeruns and 28 runs batted in.  The UK Athletics website called Wade a “slick-fielding shortstop” and he “came to UK as one of the more accomplished high school players in the state of Kentucky.”

Tilford, a sophomore pitcher, has a 1.50 ERA in four appearances this spring.  He has struck out ten and walked three hitters in six innings pitched.  The 6’2” righty was a Louisville Slugger All-American coming out of Heath High School in West Paducah, Kentucky.

Thulin, a 6’3”, 235-lb. junior outfielder, played at Seminole State College before joining the Wildcats this school year.  He is considered the “best raw power hitter on the club” according to the UK Athletics website.  Thulin was an All-State selection in Oklahoma during his high school baseball career.

The Wisconsin Woodchucks are a member of the Northwoods League, a college wood bat summer league featuring players from across the country.  Baseball America named the Northwoods League as one of the premier summer collegiate baseball leagues in the country.  The Woodchucks 2008 home opener is set for Friday, May 30th.  For ticket information or to reserve a date for a group outing, please contact the Woodchucks office at 715-845-5055.
