‘Chucks: Welcome Back, Stine
March 16, 2008

WAUSAU, WI – March 16, 2008 – Local baseball fans can rejoice; Merrill native Jordan Stine is returning to the Wisconsin Woodchucks for the 2008 summer.  Stine will join his former teammate Matt Gantner in the Woodchucks outfield this season.  A junior at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, he played his high school ball only 15 minutes north of Wausau at Merrill High School.

Stine, a 6’2”, 200 lb. outfielder, hit .263 as a Woodchuck last season.  He finished sixth on the team in hits with 36 and tied for fifth in runs scored with 20.  His speed on the base paths and in the outfield will also be an asset to Jim Gantner’s Woodchucks this coming season.  Stine finished six-for-six in stolen base attempts in 2007 which was good for third on the team.

Currently Stine is hitting .385 for the UW-W Warhawks this spring.  He has five hits, one double, and one stolen base through four games and has been hitting in the three-spot in each of those contests.  During his sophomore campaign in 2007, he hit .400 with six doubles, six home runs, and eight stolen bases.

The Wisconsin Woodchucks are a member of the Northwoods League, a college wood bat summer league featuring players from across the country.  Baseball America named the Northwoods League as one of the premier summer collegiate baseball leagues in the country.  The Woodchucks 2008 home opener is set for Friday, May 30th.  For ticket information or to reserve a date for a group outing, please contact the Woodchucks office at 715-845-5055.
