2007: Another 'Chucks Season of Family-Fun Entertainment

November 5, 2007

WAUSAU, WI – November 5, 2007 – The successful season the Wisconsin Woodchucks had in 2007 was recently recognized at the Northwoods League meeting in October.  The Woodchucks were commended for their impressive attendance numbers, creative promotional schedule, and efficiency in their concessions’ operations.

In 2007 a total of 61,742 fans passed through the gates to see the Woodchucks play.  The average of 1,871 fans per game was good for fourth in the league behind Madison, La Crosse, and Eau Claire.  The ‘Chucks highest single-game attendance in 2007 was 3,073 as the team “hit the road” for the game down in Stevens Point on July 17th.  Coming in second was Credit Union Night #1 when the ‘Chucks had 2,678 fans in attendance.  Wausau Youth Baseball / Softball Night was again a success in terms of attendance when it brought in 2,660 fans, which was good for third-highest on the season.

Highlighting the ‘Chucks promotional schedule were the numerous special guest appearances along with multiple fireworks shows.  The following celebrities and famous figures made special guest appearances at Athletic Park this past season:  former Milwaukee Brewers Rollie Fingers and Gorman Thomas, Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane (actor James Best) from the Dukes of Hazzard, the Klement’s Sausage Racers, and Bucky Badger.  The team also witnessed increased attendance on the five nights that had post-game fireworks presented by Trig’s.  ABC Sales and Marketing out of Rhinelander did an outstanding job with all of this past summer’s fireworks shows.

The concessions’ operation was also a success this season.  Approximately 40 concessions’ employees worked each and every game, and it was their customer service that made the overall fan experience the best ever.  The operation’s efficiency helped shorten the lines at concession stands.  The Woodchucks have always stuck to their affordable family-fun approach and 2007 was no different.

Heading into the 2008 season, the Woodchucks’ front office staff is looking to improve upon the organization’s successes.  The staff attended the Minor League Baseball Promotional Seminar in Birmingham, Alabama in late September.  Not only did the staff pick up various promotional ideas from nearly 100 minor league teams from across the country, but it was also able to tour the oldest surviving professional baseball park in the United States, Rickwood Field.

The Wisconsin Woodchucks are a member of the Northwoods League, a college wood bat summer league featuring players from across the country.  Baseball America named the Northwoods League as one of the premier summer collegiate baseball leagues in the country.  For ticket information contact the Woodchucks office at 715-845-5055.
